A few steps lead up to the kitchen, which was completely renovated in 1999 in solid wood and granite. The dining room is next to the kitchen through an arch. Steps then lead up to the two bedrooms, one double and one twin, and further steps lead up to the bathroom, utility area and roof terrace. From the roof terrace, there are spectacular views over the rooftops and the mountains.
The village enjoys good modern amenities such as Supermarkets, fresh bakery and of course the best locally grown produce. There is a good selection of bars and restaurants and the prices remain far lower than those found in Northern Europe. Bars and restaurants throughout Competa are welcoming and there is a sufficient variety to keep you entertained. Competa is not however, a place for English "pubs" and "Fish and Chips" shops, here you will live the experience of the real Spain.
Competa is a small village situated about one and a half hours east of Malaga airport, half an hour from the coast and backs on to the Sierra Almijara mountains at 650 m altitude.
Narrow streets wind through the village, some can be quite steep. The village has generally remained unchanged for centuries. In the centre where the streets are narrow and steep, there are no cars because for years, the main mode of transport was the mule. You will still see quite a few stables under the houses. Although the center of the village is inaccessible by car, the periphery roads are good and there is no problem in getting where you want to go.
There are a wide variety of sports and activities available in this area should you be looking for an active holiday. This is Andalucia however, where the pace of life is slow and and relaxed - you may just enjoy a sangria outside a local bar with the locals - watching the world go by.
This is an important wine producing area and the wineries of Competa are famous for producing some of the finest Malaga wines. The main festivals are "San Sebastian" the Patron Saint of the village and this takes place each year from June 22nd to June 25th.
Others are the "Day of the Cross" on May 3rd - "Day of the Virgin" September 7th and 8th.
"Night of the Wine" (book early!!!) August 15th. The Night of the wine attracts thousands of visitors from the surrounding area and is wonderful occasion.
